Advanced Pilot Camp Registration Information

This camp meets daily at Pontiac Flight Service:
2121 Airport Road, Waterford, 48327

DIRECTIONS

Back again, Chip Rasher of Pontiac Flight Service has planned a fun filled week in the air for campers looking to increase their air time and their knowledge of flying! Boys and girls, ages 10 to 17 that have completed Oakland Yard’s Pilot Camp in the summer of 2002 or 2003 are eligible to participate in this camp. As in the Pilot camp, campers will log all stick time in their logbook which can later be used as flight credit toward their private pilot’s license. The FAA requires 40 hours of flight time with an instructor for licensing. Friday will be reserved as a make-up day in case of inclement weather. Camp cost includes all flying, entrance fees and lunch on Thursday. As in Private Pilot Camp, groups of 3 campers, with instructor, will share time in their own Cessna 172 throughout the week.

Monday – Campers will review preflight preparations and be introduced to ground reference maneuvers (turns about point, S-turns, and steep turns), slow flight and recovery and normal touch downs and landings. Classroom time 1 hour/Flight time 2 hours.

Tuesday – A review of the previous day’s activities will start off the day. Campers will also experience an introduction to stalls and recovery, VOR navigation and end with normal touch downs and landings. Classroom time 1 hour/Flight time 2 hours.

Wednesday – Stalls and recoveries as well as VOR navigation will be reviewed before an introduction of instrument flying (under hood). The day will end once again with normal touchdowns and landings. Classroom time 1 hour/ Flight time 2 hours.

Thursday – The week will culminate in a 3-hour cross-country flight. Our pilots will travel to Battle Creek Airport where they will have the opportunity to tour a 747 Aircraft. Then it’s off to Jackson Airport for lunch and back to Oakland County Airport to end the day. Flight time 3 hours/ ground time 1 hour.

Taxing down the run way for the 3 hour cross-country flight!
