Three student anxiously await take off!
Children interested in flying into the wild blue
yonder should definitely participate in this camp!
Chip Rasher, Pontiac Flight Service’s head
guy will be overseeing this exciting camp. Boys
and girls, ages 10 to 17 are eligible for this
4-day program. Groups of three, with instructor,
will share time in their own Cessna 172 throughout
the week.
Monday – CLASSROOOM. Campers will spend
time learning the fundamentals of flight, how
to preflight an aircraft, the basics of aircraft
instruments and Aircraft OPS. Classroom time 2.5
hours.
Tuesday – Campers will spend their time
in the air in concentrating on preflight, turns,
climbs, and descents, flight altitude and basic
maneuvers. Flight time 2.0 hours.
Wednesday – Preflight, maneuvers, pattern
work and take offs and landings will be the days
topics. Flight time 2.0 hours.
Thursday – The week will culminate in a
cross-country trip to Kalamazoo Airport where
campers will have lunch and a chance to tour the
air museum. Flight time 3.0 hours.
Campers will receive a flight logbook in which
they will be able to log their stick time. This
will then be signed by their instructor and can
later be applied as flight credit toward their
private pilot’s license. The FAA requires
40 hours of flight time with an instructor for
licensing. Friday will be reserved as a make-up
day in case of inclement weather. Cost includes
all flying, museum entrance fee, and lunch on
Thursday, and flight logbook.
