This isn’t your typical textbook science
camp. Campers will get to see
the different sides of science using a hands-on
approach
through experiments and physical exploration.
This camp will be a week
of fun while seeing the world around you in
a different
way. Each of the five days will be dedicated
to a different field of
science: Physics, Astronomy, Natural Science,
Zoology, and
Chemistry.
Campers will learn
how Physics can simplify our lives through
an
examination of pulleys, levers, ramps, and
other simple tools.
Pull heavy objects up the side of the dome;
launch pumpkins hundreds
of feet with our trebuchet, and build and
race solar cars.
Our day of Astronomy will include a discussion
of the galaxies, comets,
asteroids, and the solar system. The day will
conclude
with each camper making a scale model of the
solar system. Get ready
to trudge in the swamp to collect water samples
for
microscope testing when we look into the Natural
Sciences. Our time
with Zoology will include a visit from a very
unique petting
zoo. Reptiles, mammals, marine creatures,
you’ll see, and touch them
all!
Last but not
least Chemistry. Volcano’s, rockets,
to name just a couple of the cool things we’ll
play with. Not to worry
mom, safety goggles and gloves for all! All
of this prior
to our Friday field trip to the Detroit Science
Center! What a cool week
of discovery!
This camp is open to
boys and girls ages 7 to 13.
Camp is limited to 12 per session only.
Camp includes all material, solar car, museum
entrance and lunch on
Friday.

Oakland
Yard Summer Camps is continuing our
passport program to ensure that we
are a leader in safety by providing
a worry free place for parents to
leave their children. To accomplish
this, we will continue to issue camper
passports to all campers. In addition
to our passport security measure,
we will ask that you park your car
and come into our gated-area each
day to drop off and pick up your child. |
|
How
It Works: Campers
will use their passport on a daily
basis to check in with their counselors.
Counselors will use this passport
and the information contained therein
as a quick reference for attendance
and emeregency information.
Upon receipt of your child's
passport, we request that you fill
in the required information with
a pencil.
Campers passports will
be returned to each them at the
end of the day when their parent
checks them out.
There is a one time passport
fee of $10 per child. This
passport will never expire, it just
needs to be updated with your childs
current photo each year.
