Overnight!

Make one of the best childhood memories of camping a reality for your
child. This camp will help to prepare your child for a day in the
wilderness or next fall’s hunting trip to the wilds of Northern Michigan.
All campers will participate in a variety of exercises geared for survival
in the wilderness.

Monday-Campers will participate in a series of initiative tests designed to strengthen their communication skills and improve their ability to work as a team. After all of the day’s testing, teams of four will be formed.

Tuesday-Campers will learn the basic point of archery: safety, stance, aiming, and breathing. The second half of the day will consist of a scavenger hunt based on the camper’s ability to read a map and
compass. X marks the spot! Campers arriving at the final destination
will be rewarded with a buried treasure.

Wednesday-Campers will spend this day preparing for a Thursday
overnight outing. Teams will successfully master the GPS (Global
Positioning System) as well as a compass. The later part of the day will be spent using the GPS and compass to compete in a way-point race between the teams.

Thursday/Friday-Campers will arrive at Oakland Yard in the morning prepared to spend the evening camping at Brighton Recreation Area on Bishop Lake. Campers will spend the evening setting up a campsite, cooking their dinner over an open fire, discussing first aid survival and enjoying an evening in the great outdoors. Oakland Yard will supply tents, food, fishing poles and cooking items. Friday morning, campers will again
prepare their meal and finish off their adventure, fishing, hiking or
canoeing, time permitting on Friday. Campers will return to Oakland Yardby 3:00 for an afternoon pick up by their parents.

All campers will receive a first aid lecture on Monday. Campers need to bring sleeping bags, pillow, a change of clothes, flashlight, toiletries and tennis shoes or hiking boots for the overnight excursion. Campers are welcome to bring their own tent if they so wish. 3 – 4 children will share atent on the overnight, tents will be assigned by gender.
Oakland Yard will provide transportation, radios, hand held GPS’s, and
first aid equipment. Camper to instruction ratio will be 6/1 Monday
through Wednesday, and 4/1 on Thursday and Friday.

What's What at OYA
Oakland Yard Summer Camps is continuing our passport program to ensure that we are a leader in safety by providing a worry free place for parents to leave their children. To accomplish this, we will continue to issue camper passports to all campers. In addition to our passport security measure, we will ask that you park your car and come into our gated-area each day to drop off and pick up your child.

How It Works: Campers will use their passport on a daily basis to check in with their counselors. Counselors will use this passport and the information contained therein as a quick reference for attendance and emeregency information.
Upon receipt of your child's passport, we request that you fill in the required information with a pencil.
Campers passports will be returned to each them at the end of the day when their parent checks them out.

There is a one time passport fee of $10 per child. This passport will never expire, it just needs to be updated with your childs current photo each year.

Parents who want to pre-purchase ice cream and candy credits for campers can do so for any amount they desire.

Why do this? It allows kids to have treat without carrying around cash. Our counselors will keep the passports in a safe place during the day then at noon and a predetermined time during lunch club and working parent the campers can redeem their credits for candy or ice cream.

All ice cream and candy costs $1
Oakland Yard is once again offering transportation to and from our off-site camps for a nominal fee.

To take advantage of transportation, kids need to be enrolled in either the Breakfast Club or Lunch Club.

As overnight campers, we loved getting care packages from mom and dad. Our day campers can experience the same thrill with our OYA Mail Call. We have our own offical mailbox for you to deposit letters and care packages into when you drop them off in the morning.

We will have Mail Call on Wednesday during Lunch Club, if your child is not in Lunch Club we will deliver the package on Thursday morning.
In the event of rain, Oaklad Yard campers will participate in an indoor field day inside the dome. Campers may be asked to participate in activities othere than the camp they signed up for.

Camps that generally go about their business on rain days: Sports & Games, Arts & Crafts, Soccer, Hip-Hop and Cheerleading.

There will be no make-up days offered if a rain day should occure, except where noted.
