2010 Field Hockey

Winter Session 2010

Cost:	$85 per player
Equipment:	All players must be equipped with a mouth guard and stick. Field players must wear shin guards. Goalkeepers must wear all protective and performance gear
League Play:	All games will be 50 minutes in length, with two 25 minute halves .

Rule of Play Rules: 1) Players pass, dribble, and hit the ball down the field using only the flat side of the stick. 2) A goal is scored when an attacker strikes (push passes, hits, lifts) the ball into the goal cage from within the scoring circle. 3) All players have an equal chance to play the ball. Players may not shield the ball using their body or stick. 4) If a player commits a foul, such as playing the ball with the round side of the stick or advancing the ball by any means other than the stick, a free hit is awarded to the opposing team at the spot where the foul occurred. 5) During a free hit no player of the opposing team may be within 5 yards of the ball when hit. 6) If a foul is committed by a defender inside of the shooting (striking) circle, the attacking team is awarded a penalty corner. 7) In a penalty corner, the attacking team is allowed to take a shot on goal. The defensive team is allowed five defenders, including the goalie, behind the goal line. The rest of the defensive team must remain behind the centerline. 8) 16-Yard Hits- If the attacking team hits the ball over the end line, the defensive teams gets a free hit that is taken at the 16 yard line. 9) If the ball is hit out of bounds on either sideline the opposing team is awarded a push or hit-in at the spot where the ball left the field of play. 10) Hitting, checking, or tripping of players is prohibited (Exception: Goalies and slide tackling).
